Advantage of Colocation Bandwidth
Colocation is locating your servers in a colocation facility,
also known as a carrier hotel. Advantages of this approach include
ready availability of low cost bandwidth including 10 Mbps Ethernet,
100 Mbps Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet options. These data
centers also offer backup power, environmental control and high
levels of security.
What is Ethernet over Copper
Ethernet over Copper, or EoC, uses copper transmission lines rather
that fiber optics. T1 lines are most often used to transport mid-band
Ethernet signals in the 1 to 10 Mbps bandwidth range when provisioning
fiber optic lines is too expensive.
What's the difference between
MAN and WAN?
MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network. MANs are set up to provide
broadband network connections within a city or metropolitan network.
WAN means Wide Area Network, a term applied to any network outside
the control of the enterprise. A MAN is a limited case of WAN.
How does Spanning Tree Protocol
work?
STP or Spanning Tree Protocol is a technique used by Ethernet
switches to ensure that there is one and only one physical path
from source to destination. This is done to prevent forwarding
loops.
Will Carriers "Light Buildings"?
Some will if their closest point of presence (POP) is within a
mile or so of your location. The farther away you are, the higher
the bandwidth commitment needs to be in order to justify the carrier's
construction costs.
